The Sumpter Gold Dredge is an important link to Oregon's heritage of gold mining and remained an economical anchor to the Sumpter area long after hard rock mining had reqched it's peak. This gold dredge is one of the largest and most accessible dredges of it's type in the U.S and continued to operate until 1954. Visitors can walk through the lower level of this dredge and visit the gift store and museum next door. There is no fee to use this state park which boasts several nature trails winding throughout the park and around the gold dredge. The dredge itself is closed in winter, but the trails which wind through all 77 acres of the park are open all year-perfect for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing! Snowmobile trails are accessible through the park from all lodging in Sumpter! |
